How many SEO people/web design companies are blogging and clogging every day about SEO theories and talking nonsense to clients? Why don’t you spend more time on your clients’ websites instead of clogging up the copperways? Anchor text this, analytics that, link quality this and, my ultimate disgust: keyword ‘effin density???

This may be obvious, but for people (and search engines) to find your site, you must have the words and combinations of words that people search for actually in your site somewhere! Regardless of what you sell, promote or have to say in your website if it doesn’t contain the word or phrase that people are looking for, then YOU WON’T GET FOUND.

The first step in optimising a website for the search engines is Keyword Research.

- What words or combinations of words are used most in your area?

Link building

After letting the search engines know your site exists, the next major part in promoting your website - apart from traditional offline promotion such as adding your web address to all of your printed marketing flyers, posters, letterheads etc. - is link building. 

Link building is one of the most important factors in getting your website found. It’s simply getting links from other websites to yours. Search engines such as Google see a link from another website to yours as a vote for your site. The more links you can get to your website, the more votes it gets. In the simplest terms - taking all other SEO factors out of the equation - if you get more votes than a competitor, you come higher up in the search engine rankings.  (more…)

How do we get authority links - is Google at it?

A good great SEO friend of mine is obsessed by authority links. If you don’t know what authority links are, they are additional links that are indented underneath the main result in Google pointing to other pages in that website.

In addition, they are generally the first result in Google for a particular search term - but I’ve seen some at No. 2, 3 etc. (more…)
